Giulia Degiorgi joined Prof. Volker Hoffmann’s Group for Sustainability and Technology (SusTec) as an external PhD candidate in January 2026. Her research focuses on assessing the potential of integrating on-demand autonomous driving services into the public transport system in suburban and rural areas of Switzerland. Alongside her PhD, she works as a research assistant at the Institute for Sustainable Development (INE) at ZHAW.
Giulia holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences from ETH Zurich, with a major in Environmental Systems and Policy and a minor in Sustainable Energy Use. For her Master’s thesis, she assessed and compared different measures to reduce emissions from academic air travel. After completing her studies, she gained practical experience in Scope 3 emissions assessment as well as in strategic sustainability consulting for small and medium-sized enterprises.
In her free time, she enjoys long walks, reading, experimenting with new recipes, and gardening.
