Jochen is a Privatdozent (Habilitation and Venia Legendi) at the Group for Sustainability and Technology within the Department of Management, Technology, and Economics of ETH Zurich.
He holds a PhD in innovation studies and degrees in electrical engineering and energy economy.
In his research, Jochen focuses on sustainability transitions: large scale sectoral changes of e.g. energy and transport systems to more sustainable modes of production and consumption.
Jochen studies the interaction of technological change, actor strategies, policy and institutional change. He applies concepts from different disciplines, including innovation and transition studies, political sciences and management studies.
Current research topics: Innovation and decline, politics of transitions, transition policy, transition pathways, discourse analysis, advocacy coalitions, unsustainable transitions.
Jochen’s work has been published in EIST, PNAS, Research Policy, Nature Energy, Science, TFSC, Review of Policy Research, ERSS, Energy Policy and other journals.
