Amartya’s thesis, in collaboration with Download AFRY, will focus on understanding the green ammonia economy in emerging nations in context of the energy transition. The research will analyze the shifts that are expected in this century old industry which unlike other new energy-technologies already has a vast infrastructure.

Upon acquiring a bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Download Manipal University, Amartya is studying Management, Technology and Economics at ETH Zürich with a keen focus on the energy transition and clean technologies. During his bachelors, he got involved with renewable energy projects and for his masters, he decided to learn how to implement such projects and augment the energy transition.

He had briefly worked for Sus.Lab as a research assistant to investigate the degree of sustainability of biofuels for shipping applications in 2019. Later, he carried out internships at the Download International Institute for Sustainable Development and AFRY, Download Thermal and Renewable Energy Division. He worked on several projects, broadly as a technical consultant; in fields of solar energy, heating, hydrogen and energy system modeling. In his free time you will often find him in random corners of the Alps, if not the Himalayas. Traveling at every opportunity, he loves to learn about cultures, local cuisines and how to cook them.
