SusTec welcomes James Kneebone as a PhD student!
James Kneebone joined the group in March 2024 as a PhD candidate focused on clean hydrogen and industrial policy.
James Kneebone joined Prof. Volker Hoffmann's Group for Sustainability and Technology in March 2024 as a PhD candidate on clean hydrogen and industrial policy. He is also a Research Associate at the Florence School of Regulation (FSR), where his recent work has covered infrastructure planning for hydrogen transportation, hydrogen financing mechanisms in the EU, and the issue of ensuring justice in renewable hydrogen trade with African partners.
Before joining the FSR, James worked in DG ENER of the European Commission, where his primary areas of work were security of supply and the EU Methane Strategy. James holds an MSc in International Development from Utrecht University and a BSc in Liberal Arts and Sciences from University College Maastricht. However, his studies also included stays at the University of Sydney and Universidad de la Habana. James has ethnographic fieldwork research experience from Havana, Cuba, where he investigated bottom-up economic development models.
James is an avid cyclist, vegan, and player-coach of the European University Institute (EUI) men's football team.
