Our Team at the NCCR Catalysis Annual Meeting 2025
Our SusTec colleagues Ricarda Fieber, Jenni Kaipainen, and Catharina Bening participated in and contributed to the first Phase II NCCR Catalysis Annual Meeting, held at ETH Zurich, and returned with new insights, ideas for future collaborations, and an award.

We had the pleasure of participating in the Download NCCR Catalysis Annual Meeting at ETH Zürich from June 16-18 – a vibrant gathering that brought together the entire NCCR community for the first time in Phase II. With the inspiring motto "Homogenizing Heterogeneity," the event was a dynamic platform for collaboration, exchange, and scientific exploration.
From our group, Ricarda Fieber, Jenni Kaipainen, and Catharina Bening actively contributed to the 3-day program through both a presentation and a workshop, engaging researchers from across the NCCR catalysis network on key topics in innovation and sustainability within the chemicals sector. Additionally, Catharina contributed as member of the poster evaluation panel. Our content contributions result from fruitful NCCR Catalysis partner collaborations. We’d like to particularly thank Luca Chiapperino for holding the Sustainability workshop, and Zhanyun Wang for supporting the ongoing work on “Safe and sustainable by design chemicals” presented by Ricarda Fieber.
We are particularly pleased to share that Ricarda Fieber received the Best Talk Runner-Up Award for her presentation titled: “Innovation for safe and sustainable by design chemicals: Approaches and challenges at the firm level”. This recognition highlights our ongoing work at the intersection of innovation, sustainability, and responsible chemical design – an area of increasing relevance within the transition to sustainable industry practices in the chemicals and plastics sector.
We thank the NCCR Catalysis team for organizing an inspiring and well-structured event, and we look forward to continuing our contributions within this vibrant research community.
