Layers of Co-Existing Innovation Systems: New Article by Johannes Meuer
SusTec's senior researcher Johannes Meuer and co-authors Christian Rupietta and Uschi Backes-Gellner have written an article on different innovation systems in Swiss firms published in Research Policy.
Johannes and his co-authors analyze 384 Swiss firms and identify five co-existing innovation systems: two generic innovation systems: the autarkic and the knowledge-internalisation; one regional innovation system: the protected hierarchy; and two sectoral innovation systems: the public sciences and the organised learning. Based on these findings, they argue that innovation systems consist of a 'central' layer hosting generic innovation systems and a 'surface' layer hosting regional and sectoral innovation systems.
