SusTec's Joern Hoppmann wins ONE Best Paper Award at Academy of Management Annual Meeting
SusTec's Joern Hoppmann has been awarded the Best Paper Award of the Division "Organization and the Natural Environment" at this year's Academy of Management Annual Meeting in Atlanta for his paper "Not My Business: How Cognitive Frames and Role Identities Influence Corporate Sustainability".
The paper, co-authored with Marcel Richert and Timo Busch from the University of Hamburg, draws on a longitudinal case study of a sustainability project within a medium-sized car dealer. It shows that whether individuals engage in sustainability practices not only depends on their sustainability-related cognitive frames but also whether they perceive social and environmental aspects to be part of their organizational role. It provides insights into the detailed mechanisms through which individuals adjust their cognitive frames and organizational role identity over time to enhance sustainability action. Moreover, it demonstrates that mutual interactions between cognitive frames and organizational role identities within and across members inhibit organizational change toward sustainability.
